Note 2: The story is dedicated and somehow requested by lilly0, but she has no idea what it is about. She had to choose between numbers and letters, and each was a pairing and setting, and so 2-B-white is Tackey/Ryo, AU and crime. ^^ And thanks for choosing a title to sweetspicyhot
„Someone broke into my hotel room and placed a camera in my coat, and hoped I'd take it? He or she couldn't count with pictures, because what if I'd have left it there?“ Ryo twisted the instrument in his hands and stared at Tackey in disbelieve.
They pulled out the battery and made it useless for the culprit. “Someone wants to ruin me, no matter what and how. I think he or she is going to play the dirty game till I am “dead”.” Tackey answered and knew he'd fight till the end to save his private life and his niece, no matter what it would cost.
Ryo nodded at him and he knew he'd fight with the other one, but they were still in the dark, and new traces were hard to find. Ryo had the instrument still in his hands when his sight fell on a small number in the corner of the camera. “Wait a minute...” he started. “I told you yesterday that the culprit may have overseen something and came back because of that. I think I found what he searched for, and I think he didn't break in because of placing the camera, he wanted it back.”
Tackey stared at him, and just saw the other one smiling brightly at him. “And what is it?” he asked after one minute. Ryo turned around and typed something into his computer before he grinned and showed Tackey the results. “It's a camera which is only used by police. No one else is able to get such a thing, so he must be connected to us.”
Tackey's thoughts started to spin around and he thought of every possible suspect, but he couldn't find anyone who'd fit.
“The 17th of every month, an expensive ink, 4 dead children, a connection to the police, Origami figures, a handwriting which is written by someone who must have lost a finger, the connection to you and the pollen...” Ryo summarized and saw Tackey nodding at his words.
“I have no idea how all this facts are connected with each other.” Tackey sighed and took a look at the clock. “Two days left and we are totally in the dark.”
Ryo took the letter and started to read it out again, when a sudden thought hit him. “Not totally in the dark…Tackey, I think I know who had written the letter.”
Tackey stared at him in utter surprise and waited for a further explanation. “Do you see the small circles above some signs? And the fact that the writer must have lost one finger?” Tackey nodded at him and saw Ryo pulling something out of his bag.
“I asked Hiraoka-san if he could write something down for me, just that I could see how calligraphy works out, and if you compare those two writings, it's the same. But I will check it on my computer.” Ryo scanned it and smiled when a green light appeared on the screen and told them that it matched.
“But he worked for the police Ryo, he can't be the culprit...he is a friend of mine since years.” Tackey looked at the screen and his thoughts started to spin around. His eyes opened widely when he remembered the last years and his connections with the calligraphy specialist. “He can't be the killer...”
Tackey rubbed above his face and sighed deeply. He couldn't believe that this was the truth, but when he put the pieces together everything fit perfectly.
“Some years ago I had a case where a girl disappeared traceless. I searched for her almost one month, but I didn't find her, and in the end I had to give up. It was Hiraoka's daughter. She disappeared on the 17th and I gave up on the 17th in the following month...” Tackey breathed in deeply and looked up Ryo, who nodded here and there at him.
“So it's his revenge because you gave up, and you couldn't rescue her.”
“It seems so, but I still hope it's not the truth. And we can’t be sure about it.” Tackey took the letter and saw the small letters on there, and he saw the green light on the monitor again. It seemed that it really was him.
“And he lost one finger years ago, further he knows how calligraphy works out, he has the money and the connections to get the expensive ink, and there is the little camera, which is used by cops only, and as a former police officer he had the chance to get it. I think we have the culprit.” Ryo summarized and stood up to leave the apartment for catching the killer.
He saw Tackey was still sitting on the chair, not moving a millimeter. “I can understand your feelings, but we need to hurry, maybe we get your niece now.” Tackey looked up at him and stood up immediately to follow the other one outside. “I hope you aren’t right, and he did nothing, but when he did it….I hope my niece is still alive.” Tackey ran up to the other one and they left Tackey’s place as quick as possible.
“We have to be quick but silent, when we want to get him. Maybe he isn't at home, or he is and he has a gun, or he hasn't. We don't know anything, so be careful.” Tackey parked the car and looked at Ryo next to him, who typed something into a small computer he had on his knees. “What are you doing?”
“I can check if there is someone in the house with this thing. I just have to synchronize some data, but then I can start.” He smiled slightly and showed Tackey a small camera. “I will go first and check the area, and you follow me when I give you the sign. Here are headsets, we can talk via them.”
“Hey, actually it's my area here, and you are just my assistant.” Tackey smiled and tried to calm down the nervousness both felt in this moment. “So it's my thing to go first.”
“I think I am better with technique, so I should go.” Ryo only answered and wanted to step out, when he felt Tackey's hand grasping his. “Be careful, okay?” He said and saw Ryo nodding shortly at him.
Tackey put the headset on and heard Ryo's slow breathe on the other side. “Are you okay?” He asked and heard a short “yes” as an answer.
“I am on the other side now. I can see nothing till now, but I heard a low voice, so I think there is someone in. I place the camera now, I saw a slender figure, I think I know who it is … “
“Ryooo?” Tackey heart started to beat faster and he jumped out of the car when he got no answer from the other one. He ran behind the house, but there was nothing around there. He saw a small piece of paper on the ground and a little puddle of blood next to it. He ran around in panic and searched everywhere, but there was no one and nothing. He didn't care about being carefully anymore and just ran into the house, his gun in his hands.
But he couldn't find anything there, it was like no one was here since weeks, and only some unwashed dishes and the smell of bacon let him know that there had to be someone in this house around the last hours.
He opened the little figure he found in the garden and felt the anger rising up in him when he read the message. “Checkmate.”
A/N: Now you know it. ^^ And, did you count with it?! And what happened now?! Where is he?! Any suggestions?!
