Note 2: The story is dedicated and somehow requested by lilly0, but she has no idea what it is about. She had to choose between numbers and letters, and each was a pairing and setting, and so 2-B-white is Tackey/Ryo, AU and crime. ^^ And thanks for choosing a title to sweetspicyhot
They reached the police office and Tackey felt a strange feeling in his body when they walked down the corridor. He stopped and swallowed the knot in his throat when he saw a woman sitting in front of his office. “No, please...that can't be”, he whispered and looked at Ryo, who only stared at him and didn't know what was going on.
Tackey started to run and stopped when he reached the bench where the young woman was sitting. “Aniki”, she croaked and Tackey knelt down in front of her and saw that she must have cried since hours. Ryo stepped next to them and greeted her when she looked up at him. “What happened?” Tackey wanted to know and saw her tears running down her cheek.
“I really took care of her, and suddenly she was gone.” Tackey felt his hands started to shiver and his heart bumped heavily against his chest. “No”, he said in a hoarse voice and shook his head.
“Aniki, please find her.” She opened her hand and Tackey saw a little figure in her hands. Ryo closed his eyes shortly and breathed in deeply. “An origami figure”, he whispered and saw Tackey staring up at him.
“We will find her, I promise this to you”, Tackey said and helped her standing up. He gave Ryo a certain look to wait in his office till he'd come too.
Ryo closed the door behind him and waited till Tackey came half an hour later and sat down at his table, his head in his hands. Ryo didn't dare to ask, even though he already knew what happened before.
“Ryo, we have four days to find my niece, four days. Do you believe we can mange to find her alive?” Ryo could hear the desperation in the other one's voice and he didn't know what to answer.
He read in the files that every parent searched for their children, they did what the killer wanted from them, but it never was enough and it was always too late.
“I will give my best to support you.” Ryo answered and saw Tackey looking up at him. Ryo could see the pain and worry in the other one's eyes, and he wished he could do anything for him in this moment. “Thanks”, Tackey only said and rubbed his slightly red eyes.
“What exactly happened?” Ryo asked after a longer silence. Tackey sighed deeply and raised his head to face the other one.
“My sister was on the play ground with my niece, and she wanted to take a ride on the carousel and when one round was over, and the hoarse where she should sit on appeared again, but she was gone. They found a single note on the neck of the figure. It told them that her daughter was caught by the Origami killer, and they'd have four days till she'd die.” Ryo could see that Tackey was fighting with his voice, and that it took all his strength not to start crying.
“I...we...will do our best, Tackey. Even if it means that I can't go to sleep during this time. I promise we find her”, Ryo didn't know why he was that strong with his words, but somehow he liked the other one, and he really wanted to save this child's life.
“We have to do what the killer want us to do, and maybe we have a chance, because at least we are the police, right? We have to know what to do, and if someone is able to find her, then we are.” Ryo agreed, even though he knew Tackey only wanted to calm himself down with this words. The police tried the best in every of the last four kidnappings, but they were never successful. But of course Ryo didn't want to bother the other one with these words, and just nodded at him.
“Tackey, do you have the figure the killer sent your sister?” Ryo asked and saw Tackey opening his hand and he took the paper out of there. “Let's go to your place and check if I can find something.” Ryo stood up and saw Tackey following him silently.
“I know it's almost impossible to find her. I know that we always tried to save the victims, but it never worked out, but I have to hope, haven't I?” They sat in the car and Ryo winced when he heard the other one speaking. Till now they kept silent and both were somewhere lost in his thoughts.
“I think if you lose your hope you can just let it happen. Of course you have to fight and to try anything, and I will try to support you.”
“How can it be that you are so nice, even though we don't know each other?”
“I don't know, you welcomed me so warmly and nice, so I think I feel comfortable here, and that's the reason why I open up a bit quicker than usually. My boss told you that I am half time grumpy and silent and I am not interested in meeting new people, right?” Ryo laughed a bit and saw Tackey smiling slightly at him.
“Yes, he said something in this way. And I was wondering when you were finally here and you seemed to be just normal.” Tackey answered and turned his head to face the other one before he concentrated on the street again.
“Great...my boss spreads a great opinion about me. But did he at least say that I am a genius and an absolute great guy?” Ryo smirked and saw Tackey grinning brightly. At least Ryo was able to distract the other one for some minutes.
“Oh yeah, of course, you are the best. And you don't need to laugh, he really said that.” Tackey saw Ryo blushing next to him and grinned about that.
“Tea?” Tackey asked when Ryo sat down to start all his computer. He turned around and nodded at Tackey, who disappeared in the kitchen. Again he didn't want to interrupt the other one in his work, and he didn't have the time to ask and learn about the technique Ryo used for this case. His hand trembled when he thought about his niece and how afraid she must have been in this moment, and he really hoped that it wasn't too late and she was still alive. He sighed deeply and watched the water which turned in a slightly red after he put the tea into the hot water.
He heard Ryo working in the living room and walked back with the cups in his hands. He looked at the monitor and saw the scanned Origami figure turning around in a 3D program and some analyzing systems were working on information about it. “Did you already find something?” Tackey stepped next to him and looked down on all the stuff which lied around there.
“It's still working on it, but I think we'll have the results soon.” Ryo bit on his lips and tried to concentrate on the numbers which ran down in a small frame next to picture. When a red colored series of numbers appeared he started to smile. “Bingo, I found something.” He printed the data and marked some points with certain colors.
Tackey stared at him and the papers and had absolutely no idea what the other one was talking about. “And what exactly did you find?” Tackey knelt down next to the table and saw Ryo smiling brightly. “The pencil which was used to write these lines isn't a normal one. It must be a really expensive pen, with a special ink. So that's our first trace I think. And as far as my program knows it, there are only two shops in Tokyo which sell these pencils and inks.”
“It's better than nothing, so let's start with them and ask the shopkeepers.” Tackey stood up and was on his way, when he heard Ryo behind him. “Tackey, it's already 10pm, I think it's too late today. Let's wait till tomorrow. We can do nothing right now.”
“I have to do something, I can't sit and wait, Ryo. It's my niece, I can't do nothing and just wait here till the day begins.” Tackey knew it was senseless to drive around Tokyo right now and search for a phantom, but on the other side he couldn't just sit and wait.
“I know, but … how about studying the files and searching for traces together?”
“You'd help me?” Tackey blinked at that and saw Ryo opening his bag and pulling out all the files they had. “Let's start”, he said and placed the stuff on the table, which wasn't used for all his instruments.
“We have four cases, in everyone was a child missed and found four days later in a pipe somewhere around Tokyo. On each day the parents got a mail which ordered them to come to certain meeting points or doing something incredibly bad, like in case two, where the father should jump from a bridge while the mother should film it.” Ryo started and saw Tackey nodding here and there and making some notes with the main points in there to have a better overview about everything.
“And in all cases we have this little Origami figures, which are placed in the hand of the children. In the inside of them there are short notes, only one word things and we don't know how they are connected with each other, or if there is any sense behind them. And now we know that the ink he or she uses is an expensive one, so maybe we can figure out something because of this fact.” Ryo continued.
“We have four words, including this case five words on the figures. Can we make any kind of connection between them?” Tackey wrote down the words in his notepad and stared on it.
“Trick, treasure, torture, traffic, talisman.” Tackey read them out and saw Ryo nodding at this.
“Everyone starts with a T, but I can't figure out another connection between them. It sounds like they are totally accidentally used, but the fact that they all start with the same letter makes me doubting about it.” Ryo titled his head a bit, but he knew they wouldn't find a solution for this in this moment. They had to concentrate on other things in the files. “I think we can't solve this riddle right now, so maybe we should go on here.” Tackey nodded and turned his page to write down other facts they collected.
Late in the night they were done with their mind map and Ryo leaned back in his seat and closed his eyes to rest for some minutes. “I think I will go now, it's already 2am, and we have to work tomorrow, or better today.”
“I have a guest room, Ryo. You can stay here, and you really do not have to drive to the hotel at this hour.” Tackey suggested and saw Ryo bowing slightly and he smiled at him. “Thanks, Tackey, that would be nice. It's a long way to the hotel, and I am really tired, so I'd happily accept your offer.”
