Note 2: The story is dedicated and somehow requested by [info]lilly0, but she has no idea what it is about. She had to choose between numbers and letters, and each was a pairing and setting, and so 2-B-white is Tackey/Ryo, AU and crime. ^^ And thanks for choosing a title to [info]sweetspicyhot

Ryo ran upstairs and knocked on the door, but no one opened it. He tried to open it, and really it was unlocked at all. His heart beat faster when he walked into the room and looked around carefully. He thought of every step he made and watched out every move he took.

He saw the light in the living room and stepped closer. He couldn't see anyone around so he sneaked slowly to the sleeping room where he stopped and breathed in deeply.

“What are you doing here?” Ryo jumped at the words and turned around. Tackey stood behind him, only a towel around his waist and Ryo started to blush immediately.

“I am sorry, someone broke into my hotel room, and I tried to reach you, and you didn't pick up the call, so I came here. I think the killer searched for something, and I bet he didn't get it, because all the important stuff is at your place. So I was worried and came back, and you didn't open the door, so I tried if it was unlocked and walked in.” Ryo spoke fast and his voice was trembling a bit. He could see Tackey's smile on his face, and he knew that the other one knew that he was embarrassed because of this situation.

Tackey stopped smiling and walked forward to the living room. “Someone broke into your place?”

“It seems so, yes. But I can't imagine what he or she was searching for.” Ryo answered and sat next to the other one. He didn't dare to take a look at him, because it almost made his heart jump out of his chest, and he knew he'd get red like a tomato and it would end in staring at the other one without any break.

“Maybe the pictures we got?”

“That can't be. I think the killer doesn't know about them, there must be something else on one of the figures or notes. He left something behind which could probably give himself away.” Ryo mentioned and rubbed above his chin.

“But what can it be? We searched everywhere, and we scanned anything, so what can it be?” Tackey crossed his arms and leaned back on the back rest. He wondered about himself. He was sitting here, fresh from the bath, but he didn't care about getting some clothes. He didn't feel embarrassed or shy or something like that, even though he didn't know Ryo quite long.

“I am not sure about it, but I have an idea. Where is the note we found?” Tackey pointed at a small package on the table and looked after Ryo who ran up to it. “I think I forgot something, maybe I can scan it again, and check it out? Is it okay for you?” Tackey smiled at him and nodded slightly before Ryo started his computer.

Ryo looked at the green light, wandering above the evidence and step by step it appeared on the monitor. Ryo clicked on a program and waited some moments till it started. The picture turned into a 3D version and Tackey could see some numbers running up and down on the left sidebar of the program. “What are you doing?”

“I check if the computer can reconstruct the hand which wrote the note. I thought of something when I saw this note on the corpse, but I am not sure if I am right. I totally forgot about it afterwards, because I was a little bit overstrained by the situation, so yeah, I forgot about it, but I remembered right before. I saw the small circles around some of the letters, and the small points at the end here and here.” Ryo pointed at the 3D picture and saw Tackey's questioning face resting on him. “Actually I am not into handwriting, but I know this fact, because of my grandfather. He lost his middle finger during work and it was the hand he was writing with, so you could see in his style that there was something different from before.” Ryo explained.

“But the figures are different, aren't they?” Tackey took one of the unfolded figures and stared at the writing on it.

“Yes, true, but maybe he has a helping hand? Maybe someone who didn't even know why he is using those figures.” Ryo suggested and smiled when he got a result from the computer. “I was right, look.” He pointed at the construction the computer made and saw a left hand writing down the note, without a middle finger.

“That's interesting, but I don't know if it will help us.” Tackey rubbed above his face and sat down on the couch again.

“Everything can help us, Tackey. We still have two days left, so don't think of giving up already.” Ryo tried to cheer the other one up as far as it was possible for him, but he knew that Tackey suffered during the last days, and who wouldn't understand it? Ryo didn't want to change the position with him, because he didn't even know if he could stand it without his soul breaking into thousand pieces. And he didn't know if he would be able to laugh for a single moment during this time, or concentrate on something else than the case for just one second a day. He knew he'd become crazy when it would happen to him. So he really admired Tackey's stoic way of thinking and his coolness, but one look into the other one's eyes let Ryo know how much he was suffering and how worried he really was.

“I try my best, but actually time is running out, and I can't help but getting depressed and somehow helpless in this situation.” He answered and looked down on his hands. He rarely showed his emotions like he did during this day, but Ryo hit a point in him, which let the ice melt. It was like they knew each other since years, and not only since a few days.

Ryo stared at him and blinked when he saw the loneliness and frustration in Tackey's eyes. “Don't you have any family here? Your sister is outside the city right now, but you haven't anyone here?” Ryo saw Tackey shaking his head slightly and he smiled sadly at him.

“The fact is that we haven't such a good relationship with each other. My sister and I went our own way, that's what my parents hated most. It got better when Rei was born, at least for my sister, but I am not really welcomed at home, so I stay here and try not to get involved with my family, it would be a mess for all of us. We are only fighting, and I can't hold it back then.”

Ryo nodded at him and remembered his own family. “I have only my mum, and we talk hardly ever with each other. Let's say, I am as I am and she can't live with it.” Ryo thought back to the day when she threw him out. She got to know that he'd never marry a girl, and he'd never bring her any grandchildren. That was the reason for her to stop the contact.

“She threw you out because you aren't like she wanted you to be?” Tackey asked and saw the other one nodding shortly. “I somehow understand what you mean, even though our family's reasons weren't the same, but I think I know what you are talking about.

“So we have to go our own way now, haven't we?” Tackey nodded at Ryo's words and the optimistic way of thinking let Tackey's hope rising up, at least for some moments. “So let's think about other things we maybe oversaw the days before?”

Ryo closed one eye and started to think about anything he could remember, but there was nothing they left out, no matter how hard he thought of it.
Some hours later they were still sitting in the living room and talking about the facts they had, but both were exhausted and the tiredness was overwhelming both of them.

“Ano, Ryo, I know it started to sound strange, but you can stay here, if you want to.” Tackey suggested and heard Ryo laughing at his words. “It really sounds weird, because it's like a couple which doesn't live together, but spending every night in the same apartment.” Both of them kept quiet for a moment, and the heat in the room was unbearable from one second to the other. Tackey looked into Ryo's eyes and he saw this special sparkling in it, which he rarely saw before.

Ryo on the other side blushed a bit when he felt the others piercing look on him and a shiver ran down his spine when he remembered why he was closed as he was. He felt his breath got faster, even though there was nothing to be nervous about, but he couldn't suppress the feelings in his body. He knew from the first day, when he saw Tackey in his office that he'd fall for him sooner or later. He was the type Ryo fall for. He was stoic and somehow closed, and he knew he had to get to know him, till he'd talk with him (which happened rather fast) and he knew Tackey was the type who cared for others, like before Ryo left to the building lot.

He looked up a bit and saw that the other one was still looking at him. Ryo bit on his lips and thought of anything he could say in this moment, but like always he didn't know what he should say, and the other one's look didn't make it any better. And Tackey wasn't talking to him either; he just scanned the other one's behavior and smiled about his nervousness. One thing Tackey learned during the last years as a special agent: reading other people's body talk, but there was always a small insecurity when it concerned him and his life. So there was always a little: what if I am wrong and I misinterpret something here?

Tackey sighed a bit before he stood up and wanted to walk back to his sleeping room. He stopped half a way and turned around to face the other one, who was still sitting on the couch, not moving at all. “Good night”, he said and heard the other one returning the words.

Tackey closed the door and leaned his head against it. He couldn't think of a relationship right now, it was impossible. He had to concentrate on the case and on his niece, it wasn't someone he didn't even know whom he was searching right now, and it was like betraying for him to think about his own luck in this situation.

A/N: Slowly, slowly they get closer....and honestly. Who wouldn't be embarrassed seeing Tackey like this?! :P
